1. The 6-Inch Toss Rule

You cannot hit the ball directly out of your hand.

• The Rule: The ball must be thrown near-vertically upward, at least 16cm (6 inches), after leaving the palm of the free hand.
• Why?: This ensures the receiver has time to see the ball and judge the spin before you strike it.

2. The Open Palm Rule

This is the most common basement foul.

• The Rule: At the start of the serve, the ball must rest freely on the open, flat palm of the server’s stationary free hand.
